President Donald Trump has announced that he will nominate Lance Schroyer to serve as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Schroyer is a former Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper and a United States Marine Corps veteran with about 29 years of law enforcement experience. At the time of his nomination, he was serving as a senior adviser to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. If confirmed by the United States Senate, Schroyer would replace the agency's acting leadership. David Venturella is expected to continue serving in an acting capacity until the confirmation process is complete. ICE has not had a Senate-confirmed director since 2017.
