Should pastors be expected to preach, counsel, visit, organize, solve problems, meet every need, and personally carry the ministry of an entire church? In this Extra Shot of Grace in the Grind, Cody Hudson examines Acts 6 and Ephesians 4 to ask what Scripture actually says about pastors, church members, shared ministry, and delegation. Acts 6 begins with a real problem. The Church is growing, vulnerable widows are being overlooked, and something must change. But the apostles do not personally take over every ministry responsibility. Instead, qualified men are entrusted with important practical care while the apostles remain devoted to prayer and the ministry of the Word. Both responsibilities matter. Luke even uses the same Greek word-family— diakonia , meaning service or ministry—to describe both practical care and the ministry of the Word.
