This unnumbered CBS audition/pilot stars John Dehner as Captain Lee Quince, a role later played by Raymond Burr in the regular series. Captain Quince leads a patrol after a white gunrunner supplying rifles to Yellow Knife, but strict orders—and one man’s private thirst for vengeance—complicate the mission. Written by John Meston and produced and directed by Norman Macdonnell, this early production was later remade as “The Boatwright’s Story.” Fort Laramie presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
