Americký malíř a vynálezce předvedl 4. září 1837 prototyp přístroje, který změnil lidskou komunikaci. Samuel Morse se narodil do rodiny evangelického pastora a toužil se proslavit jako malíř. Stal se oblíbeným portrétistou, ale cítil se nedoceněn, když nebyl přizván k výzdobě amerického Kongresu ve Washingtonu. Vrhl tedy veškeré úsilí do vynalézání nového komunikačního prostředku – elektromagnetického telegrafu, který se mu nakonec podařilo rozšířit po celém světě.
