The HBCU has steadily grown for the last 12 years and securing housing for students who want and need to live on campus remains a challenge. In July, NCAT opened its first new residence hall in more than 20 years. Still, about 200 students will have to live in a nearby hotel. University officials say about 50% of students need on-campus housing, which is a lot higher than at predominately white institutions.
