With courts closed for the holiday, a full retrospective: the night of January 24, 2023; the four months of psychiatric treatment that preceded it, including a five-day voluntary hospital admission three weeks before her children died; the 21 days of testimony and 84 witnesses; and the six expert witnesses who all agreed Clancy was seriously mentally ill and disagreed only on whether her illness met the legal standard for lack of criminal responsibility. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington said the jury was "robbed by one man"; Judge William Sullivan had twice declined to remove the holdout, finding the jury's notes did not show a juror refusing to follow the law. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not said whether he will retry the case; the parties return September 29, when Reddington is expected to seek an immediate retrial.
