It's job is simple but critical-help keep your engine operating at its proper temperature by regulating coolant flow. On many modern engines, normal operating temperature is around 195F, but that little thermostat is certainly not lifetime component. So what does "lifetime" actually mean when somebody sells you a maintenance-free part?
