It's bad enough when a natural disaster strikes and citizens lose their homes, their businesses, their access to medical treatments and clean water and schools for their kids. But then to have to wait years — and more years! — for the well-funded FEMA to chip in the tax dollars to pay for the rebuilds? That's maddening and outrageous. David Richardson, who served as the acting head of FEMA during the Texas floods, and who then wrote the book on the bureaucracy of it all, "Texas Flood 4 July 2025," said you're better off rebuilding on your own if disaster strikes — because you can't afford to wait on the government to help.
