If this isn't a total hoax and MindWar-level LIE about the brain cells learning to play Doom, then the possibilities have probably already far surpassed what they are disclosing at present. The missing piece of the puzzle, the realism that comes from human understanding and cognition could be our own brains plugged into the simulation.
