رادیو ارومیه یا «رادیو چیچَست» که نامش را از اسم اوستایی دریاچه‌ی ارومیه ــ به معنای «درخشنده» ــ گرفته بود، در اواخر دهه‌ی ۱۳۲۰ با برنامه‌هایی به زبان‌های ترکی، کردی، آشوری و ارمنی آغاز به کار کرد و در آن دوران آینه‌ی تمام‌نمایی از تنوع قومی و فرهنگی در این منطقه بود.
