And then there’s a potentially lucrative R&D tax credit that Paul thinks could be “a gift from heaven.” He believes his company qualifies for the credit, but he also wonders whether claiming it could invite unwanted scrutiny from the IRS. Different decisions, different stakes, but the same question: As Paul puts it, “What is your appetite for risk?”
